We leave at 9:00 am towards Arcidosso. Here it is possible to visit the town, with the Aldobrandesco Castle and the Museum Pole, before getting back in the saddle.
From Mount Amiata towards Saturnia and the tuff cities
From Arcidosso begins a truly exciting stretch of road, which leads first to Monticello Amiata and then to cinigiano, one of the most characteristic farming villages in the area. From here, the landscape changes rapidly and the tour opens up towards the Maremma.
Crossing Roccalbegna, you reach the area of Saturnia, Where it's definitely worth stopping at the famous hot springs. Being lulled by the rushing waters beneath the spectacular waterfalls is one of the most pleasant experiences of the entire itinerary.
We then set off again towards the Etruscan area.
In quick succession they meet Pitigliano e Sorano, two extraordinary villages, with houses carved into the tuff and incredible necropolises that tell of this land's profound connection with the Etruscan world.
Towards Mount Amiata: Castell'Azzara and the Pigelleto fir forest
The next stop is Castell'Azzara, which offers another magnificent view: that of the Val di Paglia, which extends from Tuscany to Lazio. It's one of those spots where it's worth stopping, turning off the engine, and looking around.
From here the route continues towards Saragiolo and crosses the famous Pigelleto fir forest, one of the most evocative forests in the area, with silver firs reaching impressive heights. Tradition holds that the wood used to build warships in Roman times came from these very places.
The final kilometers lead back to the hotel with a spectacular finale, amidst woods, light, and ever-changing landscapes.
Upon returning to the hotel, an evening dedicated to traditional local dishes awaits us, to be accompanied with White from Pitigliano and with the reds of the Morellino di ScansanoAfter a day like this, dinner is definitely part of the itinerary.
