Motorcycle tour of the Tuscan coast
KM 256
The Tuscan coast motorcycle tour in a nutshell: Monte Amiata • Castel del Piano • Montenero d'Orcia • Sasso d'Ombrone • Arcille • Talamone • Porto Santo Stefano • Albinia • Roccalbegna • Triana • Monte Amiata
We set off in the direction of Castel del Piano, then descend towards Montenero d'Orcia e Ombrone Rock, crossing a landscape that gradually changes from the green of the mountains to the softer hills of the Maremma.
Towards Argentario and Porto Santo Stefano
The motorbike tour of the Tuscan coast continues towards Arcille, amidst vast countryside and a territory that embodies the identity of southern Tuscany. From here the tour opens out towards the sea and reaches Talamone, a splendid village overlooking the coast, with its promontory and a view that alone is worth the trip.
We then continue in the direction of Porto Santo Stefano, the heart of the Costa d'Argento and one of the most enchanting spots on the Tuscan coast. The panoramic tour along the Argentario, with glimpses of the sea and Giglio Island, is one of the highlights of the entire day and offers truly memorable driving stretches.
Leaving the coast, the Tuscan coastal motorcycle tour passes through Albinia and heads back inland, crossing the most authentic Maremma, the land of the butteri (cowherds), with its wide open expanses and roads that seem designed specifically for motorcycle enthusiasts.
Return to Amiata
From here we go back up towards Roccalbegna, one of the most charming villages in the area, dominated by the large cliff that makes it instantly recognizable. Known as the town of the hanging rock, it retains a fascinating architectural structure and is worth a stop to visit the historic center, the Cassero Senese, and the panoramic viewpoint on the rock.
The Bagnore 4 geothermal power plant
The final part of the tour leads to Triana, a castle rich in atmosphere. After Triana, between Monte Labbro and the town of Bagnore, you also come across the geothermal power plant di Bagnore 4, a presence that speaks to another side of Mount Amiata. Here, the volcanic nature of the territory isn't just a thing of the past, but continues to generate energy today. Mount Amiata, ancient extinct volcano, in fact, it stores the heat underground that makes the production of geothermal energy possible, one of the most distinctive and surprising elements of this area.
In the evening, at dinner, we recommend accompanying the local dishes with the great wines of the Morellino di ScansanoAfter a day like this, even returning to the table has its reason.
