THE RADICOFANI FORTRESS

Unique views of the Amiata-Val D'Orcia area

The Radicofani Fortress and the Legend of Ghino di Tacco

The Radicofani Fortress dominates the Val d'Orcia from a height of almost a thousand meters.
It was here that the famous bandit Ghino di Tacco took refuge in the 13th century.

From this strategic position, it controlled the passage along the Via Francigena. Consequently, it could intercept travelers and rob them along the way. Even today, the fortress is known as "Rocca di Ghino di Tacco," precisely because of this historical connection.

A medieval fortress with 360-degree views

The Rocca represents one of the most fascinating examples of medieval fortifications on Monte Amiata.
Furthermore, it offers an extraordinary 360-degree panorama of Mount Amiata and the surrounding valleys.

From the summit, the view sweeps across the entire Val d'Orcia. It's no coincidence that this is the highest point in the entire valley.

Tunnels, bastions and a visitable museum

The visit is a true journey through time.
In fact, it is possible to explore underground tunnels and galleries that lead to the five bastions, today fully illuminated and open to visitors.

You can also access the keep, the oldest part of the fortress, with its imposing tower.
Inside, you'll also find the Museum, spread across several levels. Finally, you reach the charming battlement terrace, which offers a truly spectacular view.
