Passing between the walls and houses of Santa Fiora, going down the streets of the historic center, we come across a large body of water: the Peschiera.
It was originally a Aldobrandeschi family trout farm, thanks to its clear and frozen springs among the green of the chestnut trees; later it underwent an evolution becoming a Renaissance garden commissioned by the Sforza family: an enchanted place that recalls an Ariosto garden. With the last renovation (in 1851 with Lorenzo Sforza-Cesarini) it reached its current conformation, as we see it today.
From the Peschiera the water flows through metal grids into a large basin, surmounted by a peperino sculpture depicting two dolphins with a trident. It was used for a long time as watering hole for animals, but continued, up to the present day, as public wash house for the inhabitants of Santa Fiora
