Amiata Mining Museum Park

a unique experience

Mining Museum Park - Garibaldi Well

A visit of great interest

Between the end of the 800th century and the mid-70s, Amiata experienced a period of very significant mining exploitation, which led it to become the second largest centre in the world for the extraction of cinnabar, the mineral from which mercury is extracted through a process of sublimation.

Today those mines have been closed, but you can relive that social and cultural epic within the Mining Museum Park of Abbadia San Salvatore.

This is a visit of great interest that also takes us to discover one of the underground tunnels, where we will take a ride on the little train.
