Daniel Spoerri's Garden in Seggiano
Contemporary art on Mount Amiata
In Southern Tuscany, on the slopes of Mount Amiata, there is the small village of seggiano, located between Arcidosso, Castel del Piano, and Montalcino.
This characteristic town, built on a panoramic hill, offers a privileged climatic position and an extraordinary landscape. In fact, looking west, the view opens onto the Maremma and, on the clearest days, it is possible to glimpse in the distance the thin luminous line of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Seggiano is surrounded by woods and olive groves and represents one of the most important territories for the production of extra virgin olive oil obtained from the famous Seggianese Olivastra, a local cultivar that gives the oil a particularly delicate flavour.
🎨 Contemporary art between nature and landscape
La Toscana It has always been a land deeply connected to art. Alongside the medieval and Renaissance historical sites, many small villages have over time become ideal places for artists and scholars.
Just a seggiano one of the most surprising artistic realities of the area is found here: the Daniel Spoerri's Garden.
The Swiss artist Daniel Spoerri, a major figure in international contemporary art since the 1960s, has in fact chosen to live and develop his artistic project here.
🌳 The Spoerri Garden Sculpture Park
Il Daniel Spoerri's Garden It extends over approximately 15 hectares of land, immersed in the nature of Monte Amiata.
The park is made up of:
During the visit, the route does not follow a rigid path: the works gradually emerge from the vegetation, creating a continuous dialogue between art and nature.
Sometimes the sculptures stand out clearly in the landscape, while other times they almost seem to hide among the trees and vegetation.
The result is an evocative experience that alternates surprise, discovery and contemplation, recalling the atmosphere of the Renaissance, Baroque and Romantic gardens.
🧠 Daniel Spoerri and the art of the garden
Daniel Spoerri is a great connoisseur of the historic European gardens. Not by chance, his first trip to Italy was dedicated to visiting the famous Park of the Monsters of Bomarzo.
Among the works that influenced his research we also find the famous Renaissance text Hypnerotomachia poliphili by Francesco Colonna, considered a point of reference for the art of gardens.
From reflection on these themes, an ever-evolving environmental work was born in Seggiano: an open artistic project, capable of transforming and welcoming new creative experiences.
