A Magical World to Discover

🌿❤️ History, landscape and identity of the territory

Il Mount Amiata, an ancient volcano full of charm, was the Sacred Mountain of the Etruscans.

Subsequently, between the 8th and 12th centuries, it experienced a period of great splendor thanks to the influence ofAbbey of San Salvatore, built to protect the Via Francigena and capable of spreading its benefits throughout the territory.

During the Middle Ages, in the period of castle building, the Borghi which we can still admire today, perfectly preserved. It is very likely, in fact, that the landscape of the surrounding villages and countryside has remained essentially the same as it was a thousand years ago.

In more recent centuries, the territory has been almost completely spared from industrial development, with the exception of the epic of the mercury mines born at the end of the nineteenth century.

If in the past this represented a limitation, today it translates into great value: visitors find a largely uncontaminated environment, free from the most invasive effects of economic growth, both socially and environmentally.

🧩 A mosaic of landscapes

Here you will encounter a truly extraordinary variety of scenery.

Below 1.000 meters, the Beech Forest The rolling hills that surround the mountaintop—Tuscany's true green lung—gradually give way to chestnut groves. These represent not only a natural heritage, but also a cultural and social one, due to their historical significance and the continuing importance they have today thanks to their quality produce.

Continuing the descent, the landscape slowly slopes down towards the Historic villages which, between 600 and 800 metres and in proximity to the sources, form a natural crown around the volcano.

Going further down, you come across the hills that lead towards the Val d'Orcia , Maremma.
It is here that the olive groves dominate and, further down, the vineyards that extend over the gentle hills of Montecucco, Montalcino, Scansano e Montepulciano.

There are many reasons why people visit these lands.

There is nature, with the paths of trekking, the mountain bike, historic houses parks and natural reserves, the spontaneous blooms — including the fascinating wild orchids — and the local fauna.

There is food and wine, with the typical product companies, cheeses, cured meats, honey, oil and the prestigious area of Montecucco with its wines.

There are spas, churches and castles, which complete a rich and authentic cultural offering.
