The Amiata means water, fire and green.
Inside the mountain there is water that quenches the province of Siena and Grosseto. Of great interest is the visit to the Sorgenti del Fiora, a tunnel inside the mountain that leads to a large cave where the water flows .
Under the mountain there is lava. The thermal springs gush from the depths of the volcano. Thanks to that we find 6 thermal centers “Bagni San Filippo”, characterized by a cascade of white limestone (“Fosso Bianco”) unique in its kind, “Bagno Vignoni” and “San Casciano di Bagni” in Val D’Orcia on the opposite side, the famous and famous “Terme di Saturnia” and those of “Sorano” then towards Siena the “Terme di Petriolo”.
Above the mountain is green. The Amiata finds its distinction in its woods. The spectacular chestnut groves and the enormous beech forest that covers it to the summit, were the first in Italy to receive the Sustainable Forest Management Certification according to the PEFC schemes. This award not only rewards the correct management of the Amiata forests, in the name of environmental, historical and economic sustainability, but it promotes the entire territory, contributing to enhancing the quality and typicality of local products and creating a close correlation between products and environment .
Monte Amiata is the place of medicinal herbs that grow like nowhere else. A great master in their use is Aurelio Visconti who prepares in his laboratory in Abbadia San Salvatore liqueur products obtained by maceration or infusion.
