TOTAL WELL-BEING ON MONTE AMIATA
Amiata is water, fire and green.
Inside the Mountain there is water that quenches the thirst of the provinces of Siena and Grosseto. Of great interest is a visit to the Fiora Springs, a tunnel in the mountain that leads to a large cave where water flows abundantly.
Under the Mountain there is fire. The thermal springs, gush from the depths of the Volcano giving life to 6 thermal centers in “Bagni di San Filippo“, characterized by a waterfall of white limestone (“Fosso Bianco”) unique in its kind, “Bagno Vignoni” and “San Casciano dei Bagni” in Val D'Orcia. On the opposite side, the very famous and renowned “Terme di Saturnia”, those of “Sorano” then towards Siena, the “Terme di Petriolo”.
Above the Mountain there is Green. Amiata finds its essence in its woods. The spectacular Chestnut groves and the imperious Beech Forest that cover it up to the summit, were the first in Italy to receive the Sustainable Forest Management Certification according to the schemes PEFC. This recognition not only rewards the correct management of the Amiata woods, in the name of environmental, historical and economic sustainability, but promotes the entire territory, helping to enhance the quality and typicality of local products and to create a close correlation between product and environment.
Mount Amiata is the home of medicinal herbs that grow here as luxuriantly as nowhere else. A great master in their use is Aurelio Visconti, who in his laboratory in Abbadia San Salvatore, prepares liqueur products obtained by maceration or infusion
